Air Quality Index of some Commercial Centres in Uyo Metropolitan Area, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria

Commercial activities in urban cities the world have contributed to development of society and at same time impact negatively on environment. This study investigated influence some commercial centres namely: Akpanadem Market, Uyo Plaza, Itam Market Abattoir Metropolis ascertain their air quality based carried out each location. The levels NO2, SO2, H2S, CO, Cl2, NH3, HCN, CH2O, TVOCs, PM2.5, PM10 were monitored studied locations using standard instruments. Results obtained revealed that mean concentrations all pollutants determined except SO2 above recommended limits by Federal Environmental Protection Agency (FEPA). It was also observed that, abattoir released highest these pollutants. dumping organic wastes markets, cigarette smoking, emissions from generators vehicles, use condemned tyres petroleum products major sources locations. multivariate analysis anthropogenic source as route for release into Air index showed if human beings are exposed a long time, they can affect both sensitive non-sensitive groups adversely. results this should be used proper planning management concerned agencies.
